On Sunday November 2, 2014 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, Taylor Dawson, 18 years old from Germantown, MD won the title of Miss Maryland Teen USA 2015. Taylor was blessed with the opportunity to spend this past pilot season in Los Angeles furthering her acting and modeling career and was signed with the Osbrink Agency. She graduated early to pursue her career in acting and modeling. She is planning on attending Lindenwood University in the fall with a major in performing arts and a minor in psychology. She says the two compliment each other because in acting you have to totally immerse yourself in the character and know each detail about the character including every thought and intention.
Taylor loves to dance, sing and act. Her favorite style of dance is Hip Hop, however, she enjoys other styles such as tap, jazz, ballet, contemporary and modern. She has been dancing since the age of three and she danced competitively for a number of years. She was a member of Future Shock DC Dance Troupe and credits that team for giving her a “family” and a strong passion for dancing.
Taylor also has been singing since she was 9 years old. She started singing opera competitively and even had the opportunity to perform at the Kennedy Center with the Washington National Opera. Although she loved singing in different languages, she has been transitioning to pop and R&B styles. She was a contestant in American Idol this past season and was blessed to make it to the top 50 contestants in Boston. Since then, she’s been blessed to work with Grammy-award winning producers in Los Angeles to help jumpstart her career as a recording artist. ?
She has been featured in national commercials/print campaigns for JC Penney, Verizon, Nickelodeon, Home Advisor and many others. She also walked in LA Fashion week for several designers and enjoyed every minute of it. She loves performing because being on stage makes her feel alive and at home. She says it gives her such happiness to know she is sharing her gifts from God with others. One of her most memorable performance opportunities was performing at the White House for the President!
As well as performing, Taylor has a passion for inspiring and helping others. She is so excited to use her title as a voice to touch young girl’s lives. She is involved with “Kindness Begins With Me”, an anti-bullying after-school program in which peers mentor peers to begin the healing process from the years of destructive bullying. She plans on visiting many schools around Maryland, speaking to students and school officials to try to implement the program in as many schools as she can. She plans on going to high schools and middle schools, sharing her story of self-esteem issues she battled and overcame. She wants to educate young teens and encourage them to build their self-confidence in order to overcome adversity they face in their lives. Additionally, Taylor loves volunteering at nursing homes, and feeding the homeless at the soup kitchen with her grandparents. She is a strong believer in the importance of giving back to the community.
Taylor is very proud of her diverse background, which includes: Colombian and Scottish. She has a very supportive family and is beyond grateful for them. She cannot wait for the crazy, amazing journey she is about to embark on with them right by her side.
Taylor will be representing Maryland at the 2015 Miss Teen USA pageant at the beautiful Atlantis, Paradise Island Resort in the Bahamas on August 22, 2015!
