On November 1, 2016, eighteen year old Amy Ingram was crowned Miss Maryland Teen USA 2016 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. This will be a day she will never forget. She is honored and excited to represent her home state of Maryland. Amy is currently a freshman at Towson University where she is studying Criminal Justice with a focus in Criminology.
Amy is very involved at her University and in her community. In high school, she was a member of the National Honor Society, the Student Government Association, and the Principle's Instructional Council. Amy was also a part of the Cosmetology Career Pathway Program and is preparing to get her license. She was dual-enrolled at her community college and took multiple Advanced Placement courses throughout her junior and senior years of high school. Amy has been recognized for her hard work and dedication as the recipient of the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Award, the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, and the Varsity Scholar Athlete Award. One of her proudest moments was graduating as one of the Top 25 seniors in her graduating class and also receiving the Certificate of Meritorious Service after earning over 260 Student Service Learning Hours.
Amy has been very active her entire life. She has participated in many sports including swimming and gymnastics, but her true passion is dancing. She began dancing at the age of three and competitively danced for nine years in almost every style of dance. Amy was a four year member and the captain of her high school Varsity Pom squad. This led her to earning a spot on the All-American dance team at the NDA summer intensive. She is currently a member of the Fusion dance team at Towson and performs at various showcases and basketball games. Amy also works as a dance and gymnastics coach, which she absolutely loves. She teaches girls ages four through thirteen in ballet, rhythmic dance, and gymnastics. She also has a class for students with special needs. When Amy is not dancing or teaching the art, she enjoys staying fit by participating in CrossFit, a core straightening and conditioning program.
Amy has a love for community service. After attending a TAPS event, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, in 2012 she made it her mission to give back to the community as much as possible. Amy has created a project called One More Smile to enable and encourage people to get involved as much as they can within their community. She believes giving back not only brightens the recipient's day but the giver's as well. Her project has helped collect more than 600 coats over the past two years for the Happy Helpers for the Homeless coat drive. This led to Amy winning the Humanitarian Service Award in 2014 and 2015.
Amy's cosmetology background has also allowed her to participate in non-profit events, such as Make Over Madness and Active Aging. At these events she provides her services complimentary to those in need. Other organizations she actively volunteers with are Best Buddies, Good Shepherd Services, Pennies for Patients, American Red Cross, Pediatric Fun, and Cinderella’s Closet. She has also participated in many runs in order to spread awareness for various causes. These runs include the Step n’ Stride walk, the March of Dimes walk, and the Paws on the Pavement 5k.
Amy plans to pursue her degree in Criminal Justice as a forensic blood splatter analyst, something she gained an interest in from watching the show Dexter. She has always enjoyed watching other forensic shows such as, Criminal Minds and NCIS, which led her to develop a general interest in the field. When Amy is not fighting crime she hopes to also be a part-time model. She has already had the opportunity to model on multiple news segments for the Hagerstown Premium Outlets. She has also modeled for various magazines, including the Tote Magazine.
Throughout Amy's year as Miss Maryland Teen USA, she plans to take in every moment and opportunity she can. She hopes to spread her project across the state and even the nation. She looks forward to encouraging others to never give up on their goals, aspirations, and dreams, as they may be closer to achieving them than they think. Amy is eager to live out her dream and compete on the Miss Teen USA stage while represented her great state of Maryland.
