Gabrielle Carlson, born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, is the youngest of thirteen children of Ray and Carol Carlson. Conquering a learning disability, she is now a senior at the University of Maryland, pursuing a degree in Agricultural Business with a focus on Entrepreneurship. With a GPA of 4.0, Gabrielle is the Vice President and Secretary of Delta Tau Alfa Honor society.
Gabrielle traveled to Australia at the age of eleven to work as a missionary. While on the mission field she entertained at nursing homes, helped to renovate housing, and assisted in making the world’s largest milk shake.
At the age of eighteen, Gabrielle founded Chestnut Haven Equine Training, where she gives new life to abandoned race horses and trains otherwise difficult horses how to trust. Gabrielle plans to pursue her love for Equestrian Show Jumping and to one day compete in the Olympics.
Driven is the word she uses to describe herself. As an Authorized Facilitator for Darkness 2 Light, she has joined with the RAINN organization in a continued effort to fight against sexual abuse. She uses her own past personal experiences to educate and help prevent this silent epidemic.
If you tell her she can’t, she will. After four attempts for the Miss Maryland USA title, Gabrielle now plans to use her crown as a microphone to encourage the participation in social organizations that are close to her heart. Due to the diagnoses of family members, she feels strongly to promote the MS Society and the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Gabrielle knows that God will not have you walk on tough roads, without providing tougher shoes. Hers just happen to be high heels.
Gabrielle represented Maryland at the 2009 MISS USA pageant LIVE on NBC on April 19, 2009 from Las Vegas, Nevada!
